As a writer, you certainly have a blog. It’s a great place to allow your readers to get to know you better, and of course to showcase your topic and your views pertaining to it. The following post was prepared to give you some actionable steps to keep things fresh.
If you have been writing actively for awhile you know that your content may not be serving you as well as it once did. Housekeeping of your content will help to get the most out of it. It is important to get the most out of your content of course, so it may be time to take an afternoon and take the following steps.
If you have pages that point to affiliate links or products that you no longer offer than it is time to hit the delete button BUT hang on before you hit delete. If the page is getting 40 or more hits a month you may want to do a little brainstorming to figure out how to take advantage of that traffic. If you can point the page to something that is similar like a working affiliate that would be great. Be sure your 404 page is working as well because when you do delete the page that is what the visitor will see.
#2 Clean It Up!
Check for links that are not working. Clean up broken links by either repairing them or replacing them. Broken links are a great source of frustration for visitors so be sure all of yours are working.
#3 Clean Up Images!
While you are checking those broken links go ahead and check for images that are not loading. A lot of times when images are imbedded in content if the photographer takes back their rights to the images than people will get that broken image box and not the image you thought was there.
#4 Make Sure Videos Work!
If you use how to tutorials or any other type of video imbedded in your content it is a good practice to go through once and a while and make sure that the videos are working.
There are plenty of occasions where old content can be updated easily to become new viable content. Of course during housekeeping it can be difficult to assess all of your old content AND take care of the updates to make it new content so simply open it and save it as a draft and when you have time you can update all that is old and recycle it as new.
#6 Update Images!
Trends for images change. By updating images in really great content that is still serving you well really breaths some new life into the content.
So there you have it. Keep your material fresh to keep your reader interested, and more importantly… keep them coming back. If you feel something was missed, do your fellow readers a favor and add your experience in the comments section below. Thanks.
