If you thought writing your book was the one and only responsibility you had as a writer, the sad fact of the matter is that’s just not true. If you’re going the self-publishing route, then you’re pretty much going to have to count on yourself for everything.

That includes the marketing side of things.

Some writers love the challenge of marketing their books. Other writers dread the very notion of it all. They’re writers, not marketing experts. No one ever said they were going to have to figure everything out in terms of marketing your book in the most effective way possible.

If you’re someone in the second camp, relax. Marketing your book is not the hardest thing in the world. And if you don’t consider yourself a marketing person, then it’s just a question of faking it until you make it.

That’s something virtually anyone can do. Being able to pull off that trick largely comes down to understanding the array of options that are available to you.

Easy Marketing Tips For Writers

Not a marketing person? Don’t sweat it. You have options. You have things you can do to make things easier on yourself:

  • Look at what other writers are doing. No one is saying you have to copy the marketing strategies of other writers to the letter. That’s just dumb. But do you really think that all those successful writers were moonlighting as marketing experts? Of course not. They had to figure things out as they went along. Study their campaigns. If you really want to, you can also ask them for advice. At the very least, opt in to their email lists, and follow along with their launch. You’d be surprised at what you can learn.
  • Do some legwork on your options. You have tons of options for social media marketing and more. You can purchase ads from a variety of places. All of these options are available to you. All of these options are worth exploring.
  • Consider paying for certain services. No one is saying you have to go out, and pay through the nose for one of those “professional writer packages.” In fact, anything that promises to do everything for you for an unbelievable price is too good to be true. However, paying for ad space, or even paying for certain marketing services through a site like Lulu or Blurb are proven methods that are worth exploring.

These are three simple things you can do. Best of all? You most certainly do not have to be a marketing expert, in order to take advantage of the options available to you.
